Day Three
This is already starting to have a positive effect. I am a pretty compulsive shopper when it comes to the grocery store. I don't by junk but my wife knows better than to send me in there alone. Emma and I walked to Safeway for plain peanut butter(EVERYTHING has sugar in it!!) today. Odwalla juices were on sale for a really good price and I was about to buy one. I was hot, thirsty, and I haven't had anything to drink but water since Saturday night. I thought about it and decided I don't really need one. This was a pretty big step because that purchase needed very little rationalization. The reality is that I had 8 oz of water left in my bottle. There was absolutely no risk of dehydration. I had plenty of fruit and food at my house which is less than half a mile away and yet I was completely convinced that I needed this juice. I guess all the practice saying "no" to stuff over the past 48 hours really is paying off. I'm not even halfway through the first week and I can recommend this to you. As weird as it may seem it is good to be able to live in want. Say "no" to yourself once in a while. The truth is you can't have everything you want and I have a feeling that even if you could it wouldn't be enough.

Dear Emma:
You are doing a great job with your Daddy, giving him the backing that is making his disciplined Lenten Track a success. (That is expecially valuable when you take him shopping at the supermarket.) I am so proud of you both I could Pop. You are a good influence on everyone you meet, and I am sure that characteristic will follow you "All the Days of Your Life".
Love & Prayers,
Great Grandpa DMA
